Meeting Pulp and Paper Demands

Asia Pacific Resources International Limited (APRIL), one of the world’s leading producers of fiber, pulp and fine paper, operates the world’s largest integrated pulp and paper mill located in the Riau province of Sumatra, Indonesia, as well as an advanced pulp and paperboard mill in Rizhao, China. Currently, the Group’s annual production capacity is 4.1 million tons for pulp, 800,000 tonnes for fine paper and 170,000 tons for paperboard. Made with renewable acacia plantation fiber, our flagship brand PAPEROneTM is sold in over 75 countries worldwide.

In line with RGE’s focus on resource development and sustainability, APRIL produces 200 million seedlings each year in climate-controlled nurseries and plants approximately 400,000 new trees every day.  Early results of a study of the footprint assessment with the Swedish Environmental Research Institute (IVL) demonstrate that across APRIL’s plantation landscape, millions of tonnes of CO2 emissions are avoided annually.

APRIL manages one of the largest privately-held conservation areas in Indonesia, covering almost 260,000 hectares or 23% of our concession holdings. To combat illegal logging, APRIL relies on a rigorous Wood Purchase Policy that includes a wood-tracking system and chain-of-custody audits  The heart of our sustainable forestry land management is the Mosaic Plantation Concept, which involves the development of deforested and degraded land into a mix of fast-growing fiber plantations, alongside the  protection of High Conservation Value areas in order to protect biodiversity and wildlife habitats.. In the process, APRIL helps generate wealth, employment and other opportunities for local residents.

APRIL has been a signatory to the UN Global Compact since 2007, and is the only Indonesian member of the peer-invited World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
